How would you explain the difference between your #13 and the bayliss pic? Your sky looks much better, but the bayliss pic shows more detail in the front, like gravel on the track and heat haze in the air.

What is the best way to print posters online? how many pixels are needed to make, say 24"x48", poster look sharp?

In this particular case, my photo was reduced in size quite a bit from the original, sacrificing some of the clarity the other one has. I also took that one with my old camera and lesser lens than what the other photographer was probably using, so even my original probably wasn't as sharp.

As far as the sky looking better in mine, that could have had to do with which day it was, and what time of day. I also confess to a bit of post-production on the photo, including getting rid of the annoying light towers in the distance, and applying a gradient filter to the image to deepen the color in the sky a bit.

To make a poster that big look good, you'd need to start with a very high-res image, and then use a good program like Photoshop CS4 to enlarge it in a way that preserves the sharpness as much as possible.

Thanks! I hope to learn more about this stuff (like what a gradient filter is) when my kids grow up.

I sent the Bayliss image to be printed in this size. (would've sent yours but it was too small). Looked like ~5 megapixels to me if my math is correct. Will report on results.

While going through some of my archive DVD's last night, I found the backups for the Miller WSBK weekend!

I found a pretty good pic in that same corner of Michel Fabrizio on the 1098, and created a high-res file. Here's the smaller preview version:

If you want the huge one (4.5 MB or so), you can download it here:

These are great. I really noticed the intensity of the riders' eyes into the turns. Focus is perfect.

The guy on the sidecar, though is clearly braver than most. I wonder if there's any extra armor in the part of his leathers that would touch down first...

The Bayliss pic from bwhip's link above came from the printer... 24x48 inches... You can see pixelation if you look close, no pixelation from 3 feet and farther. Had it laminated. Very nice.
