Talking Nautilus Air Horn Install on Ducati 1098

You track riders won't be interested in this how-to so you can just move along.. nothing to see here.., but you street riders might find it helpful. Tried your factory horn lately? Be afraid.

I just completed a how-to called Nautilus Air Horn Install on Ducati 1098 at http://piratesk12site.net/Nautilus1098.htm

How loud is it? As loud as any high-end car..BMW, Audi, Saab..In a word.. it ROCKS!!

Correction

Well guys.. I wanted to drop in and mention a correction to my How-to on the 1098 Nautilus horn install..

I rode the Cherohala skyway with some buds yesterday and noticed that my temps were running about 15 degrees higher than before..What the f#@*?!

I can ONLY atribute this to the fact that where I had the horn installed was too close to right side fan.. I think what happened was... As the fan sucks air through the radiator, the horn was blocking the exit heat's path and making the heat NOT flow out as quickly as it should.. It's the ONLY variable.. so...

I just changed my how-to to show a new, lower position which works every bit as well and now the horn is nowhere near the fan... Wiring didn't change.. just horn position. We're good now..

PS.. The bottom picture showing the horn through the body panel is now wrong. Now you can't really see the horn now.. I just haven't taken any new pics with the bike reassembled.

No Vid but Pics...
Pirate's install took into account the Evap-box.
Since I had the Evap-Box removed, there was more room to install the horn, making sure the horn did not interfere with air flow/fans.

I was going to ask that question... I have not done the evap removal yet. Is there a bracket with the evap removal that can be used as a mount for the new horn?

Just change the Horn placement... The oil cap was not very accessible where horn was installed prior...

All necessary attachments on Pics

Sad that we need such a mod but looks like a great option if you ride on the public roads a lot

nice write up by the seller of the product...
however i have found his shop that he links to to charges excesively for both the product and shipping, besides that he enjoys calling clients assholes when they decide not to purchase after quoting over $140US bucks for shipping for 2 of these horns with the extra wiring. USPS charges $85 for the same service.

http://www.twistedthrottle.com/trade/productview/2137/ seems to offer the same horn for $39.99US but you will need to get the bracket and cable if you want plug and play.

for Aussie customers its to be had on ebay for $48 aussie or through http://www.firetrader.com.au/prod72.htm for $71 aussie.
all you need is a small bracket from bunnings and do a little wiring

Ahh.. the pissed off keyboard hero...trying to get some public satisfaction.

I tried to explain things to you person to person, Fabian but that wasn't good enough for you.. was it? and yes.. when people tell ME I'm wasting their time when I quote FedEx prices for shipping that we have no control over.. I call them an asshole.. which apparently in case no one has informed you lately..you are.. not that there's anything wrong with that.

I wasn't trying to sell anything on this site nor will I ever.. Our customers are BMW guys and always will be.. I was just sharing info from one Ducati owner to others that might could save lives.

Trust me... you don't want a public verbal battle with me, brother.. You'd lose AND end up looking like...well... use your imagination.

I'll not drag this any further in public.. it's not appropriate and others surely don't appreciate it. Go ahead.. keep going and let others confirm my initial accessment..

sure you dont have control over what pricing you get with one carrier but you have control over what carrier you use.
paying $140 for shipping on a $90 item does not make sense to anyone especially when there are viable alternatives.
If you don't wish to offer people the choice thats fine. your loss not mine your products are available elsewhere.
i'm not wasting any further time on you i let people make their own conclusions which shouldn't be to hard.

not to drag this out but since I purchase a lot of products from Jerry (aka Pirate) in the past when I had my BMW's he has become a good friend and stands by his products and excellent no hassle service. If a particular product falls short of his standards, he drops them and tells it like it is in his monthly newsletter on his site.
He is also a very passionate motorcyclist like us and is not here to sell his wares or flame anyone intentionally.
When he is on a forum (here or at the BMW etc) he is just another forum member like us sharing their passion for that particular brand of motorcycle.
