My Dealer in Sydney has stock arriving each month, he said a high number of people who have deposits dont actually go ahead once the bike arrives... So you may be lucky and pick one up earlier than you think.

I ordered my 1098 last week and should have it this week, another dealer told me i would be lucky to have one next February.

Mate, it's worth the wait. I think I waited 6 months for mine, and it was driving me crazy. When it finally arrived, I was as happy as that pig you all hear about. Once I had it run in and discovered how quickly it accelerates, how well it handles, how it sounds... (the list goes on) I realised the wait was worth it. Oh, and like the red.. but then, aren't most of them red? Never seen a yellow one in Perth - but Black? Reminds me of what my ex used to say "once you've had black you'll never go back."

Hooray! Picked it up today. Geez what a difference from my '05 Monster S2R 800.

A bit of city traffic today, but I'll get out on the open road tommorrow by taking a very long detour to work!

Any tips from fellow Aussie 1098 owners?

Get a decent tank protector :) I've got the DP carbon look one, but you might want something that covers a little more real estate - can see the paint wearing on my tank already.

Keep an eye on how many k's you've done on that tankful of fuel....

I dunno what your Monster was like but when you're out for a decent day riding on the 1098, covering a few hundred km, you need to keep in mind where the fuel stops are.

When I'm out chasing my brother (no... wait... when he's chasing ME!!) on his GSX-R1000 and we're having a bit of fun in the hills, the fuel light on my 1098S comes on after only 120km... give or take a few k's.

You wont really need to think about it much until after the break in period is over... just something to be mindful of later...

For the tank protector I got the clear 3M stuff in sheets from the dealer. You can make your own design and cover right up to the fuel cap. It's great stuff and you can't tell it's on - leaving the tank how it should look! I would also invest in rearsets. A heap more bite for your shoe/boot. And also CRG click levers. They're really good, especially the brake. You can adjust it to being very close to the grip. Perfect for one finger braking.

And ditto with HAMRNs comment re the fuel. Be careful.

Good luck with it dude.

Be good to your mother, and ride it like you stole it!

ponork, i had the same after 1 ride, on top edge of the tank at the back...so i put a carbon tank cover on as well, but now also use a bagster tank cover, which is great... geelong carbon craft do a nice tank cover which wraps around the sides where your knees grip, had one on my 749s and never seen another with the same...

Not sure what you mean by "run". I'll take a punt and assume cost? I reckon I paid $38 from memory and I reckon I got 2-3 sheets. Plenty to have a go on your tank. Mine's great. I'll try and get a pic. I'm riding in jeans atm but when she's run in I'll be hitting Eastern Creek (leathers) so I'll be putting it down the sides too. It's great stuff and keeps the tank looking good. I'm not a big fan of the Duc cb one.
