Not after buying all the bikes. Now I'm broke!:crackup
The 'Sedici won't arrive for at least another year.:BangHead It just had to be ordered before 09/30/06. And... since I'm not a current 999R owner, mine will be built later in production. Well worth the wait, though.:biggrin

Though the Tri-C is much nicer than I expected, I still generally prefer monochromatic paint schemes on my bikes.:biggrin And... the S should arrive sooner - I have my dealer's first 1098.:) Also... the extra $5K for the Tri can go for Termis and CF for the S; maybe even full CF bodywork to do a black-red-black bike.:badgerslayer Plus... I'll likely spring for an "R" in '08 or '09.:badteeth :duh
I'm anxious to see a Tri in person. I'll bet it's stunning... and I'm sure you'll enjoy yours.:cool

It's a semi-long story involving transfer of monies and incompetent bank officers, etc.
I used all my equity cash reserves to pay off some properties and open a credit line for my "toys". After the pay-offs, the bank informed me they no longer offered the credit-line product they had approved me for. I then had to open a HELOC (home equity line of credit) on the properties I had just paid off, but the paperwork has dragged forever because of lien releases, title search, appraisal, etc. Total nightmare!:mad :BangHead
John at MCC has been great about the delay. Both MVs (and the Bimmer) are waiting... no BEGGING to come home. I'll have the issues resolved by month's end. Then there will be a mysterious death at a certain local lending institution.:hung :biggrin ;)

Sounds like you should be banking at an institution where you have someone on the "inside!" :1poke
Appraisals for HELOCs are "drive bys" usually, and as long as there are no title issues lien releases shouldn't take more than a week or two. Glad you got it all sorted though. :cool

Yeah... "should". The biggest delay was that the loan exceeded the officer's lending limits and the whole folder sat on a desk for over a month.:mad :BangHead :mad :BangHead
bad mojo man......
If the loan was that big, they should have had a few people on it, gotten the proper approvals and got it out the door asap.

Here's a series of bizarre thoughts you might appreciate (or not)...
With our fractional-reserve monetary structure, all ledger entries are simply an exchange of good-faith tokens representing literally nothing but an abstractly-assigned and perceived value.:confused :duh
And... since banks technically create debt out of nothing and loan at usury, it could be rationalized that embezzling is not really stealing at all. How can one steal "nothing".:confused :duh
Or... let's figure a way to siphon off a couple weeks worth of Fed "float" from a single lending institution. That should cover a lifetime of luxury living.:confused :duh
There's more, but I'll stop before someone has me institutionalized.:badteeth :lmao

Hi Guys, I'm from South Central Louisiana and I've been riding bikes ever since I can remember. All of my streetbikes have been Italian Twins (03' & 04' Aprilia RSV's) with the exception of my last track weapon (06' 600RR). I have not been riding on the street for the last 2 years because of our road conditions and drivers but after seeing the release of the 1098 I can no longer avoid the passion burning within (much to the dismay of my wife) so it looks like I am about to put down a deposit on a new Italian mistress (Tri-Color of course...The faster model) So I look forward to contributing to the site and seeing everyone around. Howdy All,
Found this site tonight. Thinking of putting a deposit down on a 1098.
I have been riding for 30 years and my current Duc is a 02 ST4s. My
first Duc was a 74 750GT with the shifter on the right side followed by
an 80 Darmah SD. I also scared myself with a 75 Kaw 500 triple for a
few years. I will likely ride over the the dealership this afternoon and
talk. Already working on the wife. Rode to the Cycle World show at
Houston and of course the 1098 was not yet on display since it was
before the show in Milan. Really do appreciate the pics and articles that
have been posted so far.

I have been in the Cincinnati area for about a year and a half. Before that I lived in the Motorcycle Mecca of the US - central California (San Francisco and then Santa Cruz). I have been on bikes since the early ’70s and started on the street with sport bikes in the mid 80s. Currently I have an RC51 and this spring I will add a 1098 to the garage.

I'm currently in southern california riding an 01 Aprilia Mille, so I already have the Italian love. :cool
I've been wanting another bike for the past year or so and when I caught eye of the new 1098 I knew right away that this was going to be my next bike. I hope to put down a deposit this weekend or next week sometime (haven't decided on base or S as of yet) because once I see them on the street I know I will be kicking myself in the pants. Not only that but the Long Beach motorcycle show is coming up which won't help matters either. Can't wait! :beer

Oye people. Great to be on this site and part of the 1098 excitement. My name is Simon, originally from West London, England, but now live in Toronto Canada since 1987. I am 42 and have been riding since I started getting erections and presently own a 2002 Ducati 998. I've been a bike nut my whole life and the 998 is the best bike I've ever owned and I have owned a few unique ones in my time, Laverda Jota, Z900, CB750 FOUR, 929 and many many more.
I have to say I fell in love with the 1098 as soon as I saw it. In my mind I think it's going to be the best mass produced SS to date , a fantastic all round package with the charisma of the 916 style. I'm a little disappointed it doesn't come in yellow and think I will be holding off on a purchase for now until I get to see it in person and throw a leg over it however. My inital plan, before the 1098 was released, was to keep my Duc 998 and purchase a KTM SuperDuke as an everyday bike, I infact have already put a deposit down. Being a family man with not as much riding time as I wish, I also run TOPENDZ Motorcycle Apparel and Acessories, as well as a full time job, 2 kids and a wonderfully understanding wife, I cannot justify a 998 and a 1098 in my garage. My dilema is do I sell my 998, probably for next to nothing here in Canada, and get a 1098 or stick to my original plan enjoy the KTM as an everyday ride and my 998 now and then :BangHead .
Glad you could join us Simon. :cool

Hello everyone,
New here, registered a couple of days ago. I'm desperatly in love with the 1098 and I'm looking forward to get one (probably later next year though...)
I'm in Athens, Greece and I've been riding a Multistrada for the last 3-4 years until last month when I wrecked it (a car hit me after he passed a red traffic light :mad ) and the frame broke... :( Did almost 70000km with it and a few trackdays too (had a full Ohlins front fork and a rear Penske shock), the Multi was great and had no problems at all. Good bike.
Anyway, just wanted to say hi and looking forward toi contribute to this great forum.

Since he's not logged in right now:cool, I'll tell you a few bits about him (about V4.2R.XX I mean).
We're best friends, he used to be a Honda-fan (but I've hooked him with Ducs now :biggrin), he's in LOVE with the 1098, and we've raced (for the first time) together on the same bike last August in a 6h endurance race (came 4th in our class, SS600 that is)
Oh forgot to tell you he used to be an I4 lunatic :lmao and still owns a CBR1100XX, which is why we call him "captain" (that bike needs a whole crew in order to turn :p)
Cheers,
Doc
ah.....
happy to know more about him
thanks for filling us in
congrats on that SS600

Hello all. New member warning. R1scooter, but my real friends in non virtual life just call me scooter or scooter trash. Currently own an '05 R1, an '02 FZ1, and an '85 vmax.
Had money saved for the new FZ, but after riding it, I will not be buying one.:( Just not good enough for me to betray my current FZ.
Very seriously considering this new 1098. I had a 96 916 back in the day, but wanted more power. Ended up back into inlines, now I see the potential for power, tone, and real torque. Waiting to see some real world opinions before I buy, but I'm really thinking this is my next two wheel purchase.
I do have a bad habit of tinkering, how available are parts for ducs and how much more are they than jap stuff?
Thanks,
Scooter

Hey all--Tim from Corte Madera in Marin County, CA here. Got the Ducati virus last year when I bought the Monster and have been delirious ever since. There's four Ducati dealers and a Bimota dealer within a thirty mile radius of me so I'm Duc heaven, or hell depending on how you look at it. The 1098 is the absolute BOMB and I'll own one by hook or by crook!!

Just registered today, nice to be here. Holy sweet God I want a 1098, but I may hold out for a year and see if they do release an 848. Living in town makes a litre bike a bit frustrating. All that unused potential. I did get to sit on the new 1098 at the bike show in Long Beach. I sat on all of the Superbikes there and there is no contest. (That RSV Mille sure seemed wide for a twin.) Anyway, like the forum. Good to see Mitch Boehm on one of the threads.
Cheers

Finally posting on this website, figure I should start in the appropriate section. I currently have a 2001 R1, yet I put my deposit down for the 1098 the week after the official release. Can't wait to get my first Ducati. I'm a senior in college at the United States Military Academy, so luckily I know I will have a steady income for the years to follow to pay for the 1098, hopefully I'll be in country to get some riding time. Last time I checked, Ducati's don't fair too well in Iraq :(.

Hi,
My name is Ara. I live in Valencia, Ca. I currently own an '06 Ducati Monster S2R 800 and an '07 Triumph Sprint ST.
The Monster is for sale. Great bike, but I'm making room and money for my new 1098 in February (I can hardly wait). Too bad Ducati didn't release the 1098 series in December as that would have made a GREAT Holiday present.

Do you plan on purchasing a 1098?
Thanks....and welcome to the forum! :beer
Checking in from Atlanta, GA. I joined a little while ago. Have been looking & listening in while @ work off & on. Currently riding an '04 CBR 1KRR. I am fascinated by the upcoming 1098. Not sure if I will be able to swing getting one immediately, but I do plan to purchase. It'll be my 1st Duc, but I'm not a stranger to torque. Before my CBR I've owned 2 Triumph Daytona's: A '98 T595 & a '00 955i. I love the riding character of triples & twins.:)

My first name is Muhammad. And that 160% tax is only for bike more than 150cc, which is stupidly unfair:flip. Here cars is WAAYYYY cheaper than bikes. And I shave a good kilos from myself just to get a 999 "S". And the 999S price? MYR 140,000 or USD 39,976. Do the math what can you buy.

Hello, my name is AJ
I'm from Manila, Philippines
Been riding for over 14 years. Started riding with a VFR400R back in 1992 and was fortunate enough to slowly build up to my most recent bike, an '02 R1. Just sold it a couple of weeks back and I just gave a deposit for a 1098S, the very first unit in my country! Should be getting it later this week or early next week. :drool
Although I've been riding for a long time, I consider myself an intermediate rider so I am happy to be reading good stuff about the 1098 and many other motorcycle related posts from all the members in this forum.
Cheers!

Agree on the VFR400R being a great bike. Perfect for intermediate riders like me to take to the track. Utterly non-threatening to ride fast, relatively speaking ofcourse.
Yes, I feel doubly lucky and proud to have both my first ducati and the first 1098 in the Philippines at the same time! :cool

Thanks Christian. There's a few, 3 I think, that are on the way to Pinas but because there are so few Ducatis (any model) here, it's still quite difficult to get parts for the bike. I can only drool at the stuff that's already available for the 1098 (and other bikes) in the US. Appreciate the offer for the parts pare but the only thing I really want for the bike right now is a set of slipon termis or akras, and I'm still saving up for them. Besides, they'd be hell for you to bring over for a stranger! Give me a PM when you get here and let's grab a couple of beers. :beer

Hi all, allways happy to find more forums and more information and discussion on my fantastic 1098! took delivery of my bike and my first Ducati the 1st week of this month. Unfortunately i only put 50 miles on it before having my first ever accident in almost 9 years of riding:( the result was a broken ankle :limp and from what i can gather thus far (dealer is taking theyre sweet time with the estimate) at least $6,000 worth of damage:dunno !! alot of money for basically only cosmetic damage. Anyway the upside is i think i will get enough money from the insurance to not only repair the bike but also get the full 70mm termi system!!! so essentially i will be getting back a better looking, faster, and much much better sounding bike. If there is enough money there i will also be getting a better slave cylinder and open clutch cover and pressure plate:twisted. Really sucks though that after 12 years of lusting after and dreaming of owning a Ducati superbike i have it for 4 days and wreck it, but such is life i suppose, just wish if i had to wreck one it could have been my first bike, a 94 GSXR 750. A little backround as far as my previous rides go, the first is the one i just refered to, not an impressive bike and not really what i wanted but all i could afford at the time. Next was a Triumph Daytona 600, which i really enjoyed but lacked the power i wanted. Next up was a bike which is still with me an 06 Daytona 675, what a fantastic bike!! i actually had no intention of buying another bike untill i laid eyes on the 1098, i immediately put a deposit on it at the unvieling and took delievery of the first one to arrive in the state (to my knowledge anyway). well sorry for the long rambling post, look forward to sharing information and stories with all of you!

I can't believe that didn't introduced myself before. With over 28 posting under my belt and NO longer Member in Training and still no introduction. Shame on me!
Well, the name is David and the location is McLean, VA which is about 15 minutes outside Washington, DC.
Earlier today I posted the following on another thread talking about Tri Colore but when I was thinking about introducing myself I thought that it might be appropriate.
I am sorry for the long post in advanced.
I have been a motorcycle enthusiastic since I was about 14 (26 years ago). My first bike was a Gilera 50 RC follow by another Gilera - 125 Strada - Jumping from 7 to 12 HP was a big deal at the time! My first Ducati was a Pantah 500, which I had for about 14 years, it was still running great when I let it go in 1993. Over the years I had other brands alongside the Ducati, one of my favorite was the Suzuki GSX-R 750, it was a great track bike but despite the superior power, suspensions, braking and reliability I liked the Ducati way more. The Ducati was always my first choice for weekend’s rides on twisted roads, I always kept it clean – it was really a true love between a man and two wheels. (This is sick, but among you guys I feel safe)
Between 1996 and 2004 I was bike less, and busy completing my MS followed by several years of building by career and family, but when I dreamed about motorcycle Ducati was always there. In 2004 I got two huge gifts, the first was a beautiful health baby girl and the second was new 2005 Ducati ST4s which I still ride as often as I can. BTW – one of my daughter first words was “TUCATI”
In any case, you guy get the full picture by now, I am sure that several of you had similar experiences. I was, and still am a big fan of the 750 F1 and the 851 Tri Color but at the time couldn’t afford buying one. When I heard that Ducati would launch new Tri Colore for the 1098 I knew it’s my turn. It has nothing to do with the price, resale value, final specifications or the layout of the colors. It’s has to do with one thing only…
Passion!
Passion is not about the science of reasoning therefore I knew some of you had other reasons and explanations for the bike you want or ride, and I DO respect it, but this is my reason and I stick to it. My childhood inspiration and love to the Ducati brand and machine.

Daveella, you’re doing much better than me... I joined the site two months ago and still haven’t posted enough to be a “Member”. I do how ever have a deposit on a TC and live in Northern Virginia about 40 miles west of you, just outside of the village of Orlean.
I placed a deposit with Coleman in November 2006 and I’m first on their list for the TC. Their telling me the end of March but that all most upon us and still no bike … what can I do but wait. Anyway Donnie’s seems to be a good guy but when I put down my deposit he was just getting the Ducati franchise from Winchester Motorsports and I was unsure if he would be able to secure a TC. …talked with him last weekend and intend to have him perform all my service.
Anyway welcome to the site neighbor.

Hello - Dan here,
Sussex,NJ Current waiting on my 1098 - Getting back in to sports bikes. I Currently have a Yamaha Virago 750. Prior was a 1996 Honda VFR500F (Interceptor). I gave it up because I was not spending enough time on it. Just missed the bike. The wife purchased a Duc Monster for my 40th but I could not take delivery (no room in the garage) - Got the room so I was pre-approved on the bike and took advantage. Can't wait - but am nervous about the jump from the smaller bike to the 1098.

Greetings from holland, I am waiting for my tricolore since december 2006.
In the mean time I ride a cagiva mito lucky explorer which is fun too.
Big difference with my 999.
Last week I heard a TC at my dealer.
What a sound with the full termi's.
I cancelled the 70mm pipes since the original pipes perform better.

Fist, I want to thank all of the members of this forum for their info/insights that continue to answer many questions about the 1098. Submitting this post is a first for me - we'll see if I got it right - cause there is no computer savvy here. Let me introduce myself by way of the "sordid" tale that led to my purchase of a 1098 (which I picked up yesterday].
A Ducati has been a dream of mine for a long time. I've been a Norton guy, a British bike guy, for years. I've had brief affairs with a number of other bikes but while they come and go my 73 Commando remains. I race a 1967 750 Norton Featherbed in the Northwest "Sounds of the Past" vintage series. Last year I had a vicious highside that hospitalized me with banged noggin. I'm OK now, a little worse for wear(healing slows for us "old guys" !). Well.....my wife who has always supported my biking obsessions (she rides too - a Ducati is in her future) and has always put up with my post incident whining, was scared enough by this get-off to say "I'll buy you any Ducati you want if you give up racing. This led me to the 1098.
Well, I am racing this year and I do have the 1098. Passion is passion. The racing and the Ducati. Wow. Of course I paid for the Ducati myself. Its back in the shop now with the "stalling" issue.
Cheers

Hi everyone...been following this forum ever since I took my first test drive of the 1098. I still had an ear-to-ear smile on my face when placed myself on the list for one right after.
Took myself off the list when my daughter was born but straight onto the list for the 848...same looks but more forgiving.
Now that the 848 went in production, the time is almost there. Soon I will be able to ride the most beautiful bike available to mankind or just sit next to her and stare stupidly in admiration like you guys have been able to do for a while already. Envious until then... :notworthy
Hi all!
I've been riding sportbikes since 1991, i've had 8 bikes so far, 87 EX500, 91 FZR600, 94 ZX7, 90 ZX11, 95 ZX11, 93 ZX11, 96 CBR900RR and 05 Hayabusa, and in a week or 2 i am getting my first Ducati (order in progress), a 2008 base red 1098!

Hey, Guys n' gals, been reading the forums for a while.
I'm surprised to find there is a lot of great threads here, a lot of Duke forums are generally full of to much drool to get good feedback on the actually bike.
I'm English, Lived in Hamburg, Germany, then the states for 3 years and now currently living in Montreal, Canada.
I've been mad about bikes and riding for maybe 10 years, I got more involved in racing when the 600rr was born in '03 and really loved that bike. I've owned quite a few bikes with the most recent being a 1000rr. I've had a few crashes on the road and track, but been lucky until my most recent when I avoided a tbone in the rain at like 30mph and got some bling in my knee. Since then for the last 18months I've not been able to ride and Bought an SLK55 to keep me happy on the track. Although it's a lot of fun nothing like the passion I have in me for two wheels.
Anyhow, caught the end of a great winter in Montreal and the flip to sunny days has prompted my plan to get a new bike. after visiting a few stores and checking out the latest models I'm stuck on the 1098. I can probably say it's all about the looks and the feel of the things as I know probably any sports bike made in the last 10 years are way beyond my skill.. I'm just waiting on the return of my passport so I can pop south and grab me a 1098s. look forward to chatting with everyone. Ciao
Dino here. Had my new '08 1098 w/full Termi for about a week now, and just turned 600 miles. Also have a Road King for those long trips. Traded in an '06 Buell with the factory race kit for the Duck.

Hello everyone, just signed up and thought I'd introduce myself.
I'm 42 and been ridding since i was 15, I've have had a several bikes but this is my first Ducati. I picked up the black 1098s June of 2007 and thoroughly enjoyed the last year and a half on the bike. Besides commuting to work on the Duc i also like to get as many track days in as possible along with the occasional club ride. I look forward to discussing all things Ducati with everyone here and sharing our experiences and opinions as forum members.
Now, with the formalities and niceties out of the way.........let's get it on!:guns:beer

2006 Kawasaki KX450F
2006 Kawasaki Vulcan 2000
2008 Kawasaki Concours14
2008 Ducati Hypermotard S
While all of the street bikes were great and I enjoyed each one I have to say that the Hyper is just an amazing bike. Each time I get on it the fun factor and feeling of the way the bike responds its just wow! It doesnt have the big grunt of the Liter bikes but where I ride (mountains) it rails and handles/flicks/etc. like a dream! Cant get enough!! Anyone ever in the Upstate area let me know, would like to hook up for a ride.

Hello from the mountains of East Tn. Loved a Ducati all my life. First a 250 single, later raced a Pantah for quite a few years before moving on to a Vfour, and GSXR 1100. Then back to Ducati with a 996s, 748, and 1098r. Mostly set up for track days. Recently been to Savannah, and Jennings a couple of times. Lovin it and hope to see you at the track.
Greetings,

Hi,
I joined the forum in 2007 when I was considering purchase of a 1098. At the time, I chose a white S4RS instead. Liked theMonster a lot, but still had the urge for the Superbike. I finally scratched the itch. There is now a black 2009 1198S in my garage joining my 2006 BMW K1200S.
The 1198 has the Termi slip-ons and I plan to add a few carbon fiber bits and probably a Sargeant seat. I hope I get a few opportunities to ride it this season before the Connecticut weather gets too cold.
