Well doods I managed to bend both rims on my bike today. Hit a big effing rock on Ortega this morning. Good news is I managed to stay upright and didn't go down. I hit that damned thing dead square. The boys at Spectrum sent their truck to get me. While there I ran into Ara and he saw the damage.
May be time for some BST carbon fibers.

Damn.... that must have been some rock to get both rims? Props for not going down too.
Any pics?
Arnie,
Very nice meeting you today at Spectrum. Sorry under these circumstances though.
Like I said before, "you're very lucky".
I hope you get the 1098 back up and running soon.
Oh and by the way, "watch out for falling rocks".

how badly bent are they? have any pics? sounds like they might be toast, but if there not you could try http://www.gpframeandwheel.com/ I used him (Gerry) to fix a magnesium wheel that I bent pretty badly and he did a great job.

Dang Arnie, glad you are ok dude...
That must have been some rock, was it on a blind corner or did it suddently fall in front of you? Why don't you get some gold Marchesini mags to go with your gold clutch cover and ohlins?
I'm planning on getting either the BST carbons to go with my carbon Leo's and other carbon bits or the gold Marchesini mags whenever Motowheels releases them...:dunno

Thanks guys. I'm very lucky indeed. If I had the BST's on there I would've cried. They probably would've shattered into a thousand pieces. The front one is pretty effed up. I'll take pics when I go back to Spectrum, didn't have my camera with me yesterday.
The rock was the size of a VW beetle (okay I'm exaggerating) but it felt that way when I hit it. It just appeared out from underneath the car in front of me. I was airborne for a split second, landed on the front wheel and all I heard was metal to pavement. I went back and rolled the rock out of the way so nobody else would hit it.
I went back out on the same road today on my 999R and had a blast, no rocks this time. :)

Don't you think if you get BST wheels instead on bending the rims you will crack them in half if you hit another rock in Ortega?

According to Blackstone Tek (makers of BST's) their rims are stronger than both forged aluminum and magnesium wheels! Also, racers across the world have consistently reported lap times 2.5-3.0 seconds quicker with the BST's...there are guys on 600's running in the Superbike races with BST's and challenging liter bikes! They are sick rims and I'm ordering a set as soon as I have $4k to burn. Oh yeah they are CCS and WERA approved :cool

You could've just linked the page to BST wheels on Motowheels instead of typing the whole paragraph over, you know.:poke
Or did you get Ethel or Gertrude from Leisure World to help you type after you beat them at Shuffleboards?:sweat
Seriously, we should do a group buy on the BST wheels. The 1st shipment will have 7000 series hubs instead of the street ones for lighter weight. See if we can still get in on that.

Ive seen a video of the BSTs a few years back showing durablility/dot testing. They squished them in a hydrolic vise. It was impessive. The wheel was squished to a oval and when the press was released it went back to round!!!
Just remember a new sprocket is required to fit the BST rear wheel.

If there's sufficient interest, I'll ask my parts sponsor to see if he can order for us. But I don't want to step on the toes of the site sponsors who do the GBs here.
I know I'm getting my Leo Vince full system for a deal though. At those prices, I might get 2 full systems, if you got the money, I'd recommend it. LOL! I'll trailer the extra system around for pics! LOL!

ummm.. that sounds highly unlikely. I think I remember that video but the part about it springing back to round just doesn't sound right at all. IIRC the point of the video was that it just deformed normally like Aluminum or Magnesium, rather than exploding. But I could be talking out my ass.

To clarify..... It went back to round not perfect but not oval. Where it "cracked" looked like when you chew on tooth pick. All fiber, lighter in color, and flexible but still in one piece.
Then again I'm sure a few of you have seen that guys BST that exploded on him a few years back while he was on the track. Was on a 998 i believe. He tried sueing BST over it I think. But some didnt believe his story and thought his wheel got busted when he crashed and wanted to save face and blame someone else. That is probably the truth.
I cant count how many times ive been at the track and someone has crashed and they blame someone/thing other than themselves.

So here's the dealio. My insurance company gave the green light to replace both rims and tires. My homeboys at Spectrum gave them MSRP and they approved it, so I can actually afford BST CF wheels if I want them and I wouldn't have to shell out a single cent. That's the good news.
Now for the bad news... BST is backordered for 2-3 months maybe longer. Ack! I really want the CF rims. Or I can get forged Marchesini magnesium rims in less than a week provided I like gold. Hmmm....
:shakehead What a friggin predicament.
Gold wheels on a red bike, I wonder how that would look. I do have the gold clutch cover but I wonder if it would be too much.

It's not because Pepperdine doesn't excel in any sports, but rather that I spent my undergrad years at UCLA, you know, the school where the students actually can spell the name of their alma mater? It's not hating, it's the knowledge of the truth that Bruins are vastly superior to those who resorted to the University of Second Choice for their post-secondary education needs. Notice I didn't say "higher" education because that would not be accurate to say so for SUC.

He is hatin', and he's just all gased up cuz they beat us last year @ the Rose Bowl. Well, get the facts right before you get all excited. USC alumni can always get a job as it is the largest alumni network in the U.S.: "USC is the largest private employer in Los Angeles and the third largest in the state of California and is responsible for $4 billion in economic output in Los Angeles County." :fact
USC athletics rule the nation: "USC men's teams have combined for 86 national championships, the best in the nation. In addition, USC has 347 Individual NCAA Championships, best in the nation." :fact

Notice that you could not give any statistics on ACADEMIC achievement, which is, after all, the goal of any real university. Yeah... I'm pretty sure I heard that somewhere that universities are supposed to be places for higher education and learning... don't quote me on that, but I can almost bet my house on it.
Then again, if you can't excel in academics, why not put it in athletics and tell the alums to stick together under some false pretense of "brotherhood".
Yes, SUC might have the dollar signs and you gave UCLA the cent sign, but in the end, we all ride the same bikes and wear almost the same gear, right? Oh wait... I have the S... and you guys have the base... oops... disregard that statement....

I agree, but I am not so sure they are ArnuckFuts... just doesn't quite jibe.
Tell you what, Arnie, I'll take your rims and tires off your hands at Spectrum, we'll just do a straight swap for my stock S wheels and tires. If you feel bad, you can also buy me lunch afterwards. Deal?

Hey Ron I forgot if you said you're an SC alum or not? I'll be at the first game on 9/1 against Idaho :greg
Hey, Mark....yep, followed 'SC from my grade school years, then through jr. and high school. Went there for undergrad (grad '78) and then dental school (grad '82). I've gone to tons of games....I'll be there for the opener 9/1 :cool
Irritation deep within from all things bRuin :ninja. That's one of the reasons most of my "stuff" is red...NOT ONE THING I OWN is blue. Or Powder Blue to be correct :moon:haha
Seems Lawman's "S" is a little overcompensation for, well, you know ;). Bruins are always "super sizing"...comes from years of training at McDonald's, I think :D

Don't forget SUC's color is maroon red, not Ducati Red... it's from the color of the dried blood on your fingers after you're done picking your nose in class since you're worried more about athletics than curriculum.
Speaking of academics... in my law school class, there were 10 in my group of buds and at least 5 were Bruins and 1 from SUC. We all took the Bar together and 9 out of 10 passed on the 1st try. The 10th guy? Yep, he was a Trojan. At least he was consistent in his academic achievements even in grad school.
Then again, his family has more money than all 9 of us will make in our lifetimes so he's taken care of just fine.

"Academics" only matters when you're in school. After you're out, it's all about SPORTS, lol.
All that bar exam reference means is that you guys cheated better...and probably froze out my Trojan man :fact

Academics only matter in school? I thought academic achievement translates somewhat (not 100% but still...) into how your professional future is going to shape up... maybe it's just me. Oh well, guess that was just a myth then.
