Well after having my heart set on a cbr1000rr for a few months I have apparently switched gears and I am set on the 1098 due to it's pure sex appeal and v-twin; I am assuming it will be a much better bike than the rc-51 whose sound reved my soul but acceleration didn't. I was hooked from the first pic of the 1098 but I am a bit concerned with the possibility of ridiculously expensive maintenance costs; have these gotten better on the newer model Ducs? Honda as we all know builds a bulletproof bike but I want something a little different and something that will make me smile when I see it in the garage. Looks like a great site here and I will be back after I put down my deposit at Eastside motor sports this weekend.
Thanx,
Mike

How much was your deposit? Eastside is asking $500.00 and he says it is refundable; of course I will get that in writing. The dealer stated that some "other" dealers are demanding a $1000.00 deposit which is NON refundable; what a crock. I am hoping to be able to test drive one before fully committing.

Ducati have gone to great lengths to address the service maintenance issues and the cost overheads involved. To this end it has actually never been cheaper to own and run a Ducati. That is not to say it may or may not be cheaper to run than a comparative Japanese IL4 but IT IS a lot less money than it used to cost. When I owned a 748SPS the service bill was rarely below £1000!!
