Started riding motorcycles 6 yrs. ago...when I was 44, lol....never rode before that :bitchslap . Now I'm 50 yrs. old :hung
Started riding on a Yamaha VStar 1100 cruiser....went VFR800i, CBR929, GSXR600 trackbike, RC51. Still have the 929 and the Gix6 trackbike....track days for the last 3 years.
Lately was looking at the 07 R1, but having two I4 bikes for the street wasn't meaningful....then saw the 1098 and fell hard for it :duh . Never imagined buying a Ducati due to the justification of expense, service, blah-blah. With the new price point, service issues addressed, and styling, I thought now was the time....I'm not getting any younger:lmao
Researched all the forums for weeks, read opinions, sat/saw the 1098 at the LB Bike Show....deposit done :wflag. Hopefully I don't wuss out. Nice forum, looking forward to learning 'bout the Ducati experience.

welcome! you are never to old to start :)
Glad you came to hang out
Welcome! Age is a state of mind. And from the list of bikes you've toyed with it looks like you're doin' just fine. As my Dad used to say, and apply as you wish, "All beer (bikes) is (are) good, some are just better than others."
You could always get both bikes :twisted
Welcome :beer

I went with a referral from forum member "indetrucks" to Modesto Ducati....long distance in Norcal, but I have a friend up there I could visit, too. "indetrucks" did all the research, as he checked prices with >10 dealers and went with Modesto. The part-owner is a very nice, accommodating lady....it's more of a mom-and-pop Ducati store. Best pricing, if you don't mind a drive. Besides the pricing, when I called and it came time for the deposit, she said "Oh, you guys need that for Christmas....don't worry about a deposit. I'll hold a bike until you tell me you don't want it." She is now sending out the pricing breakdown and purchase order for me to inspect.
Kind of hard NOT to go with that kind of attitude from a dealer :)
Anyway, it should be a tank of gas up there...and one back. I don't mind and she was OTD $400-1000 lower than all the others.

I'm all for getting a better deal. Spectrum Ducati has always taken care of me. Then again my wife calls them my "crack addiction". :p

Spectrum is local for me, too, but they are one of the ones who quoted me $1000 higher OTD. I don't have any contacts/experience with them to work a deal on a highly-sought bike :lp

Welcome! I'm in sort of in the same boat as you. I've always wanted a Ducati but thought about all the issues with the previous Ducs. I never liked the 999 and the 1098 couldn't of came at a better time. I just might have to check out that Modesto Duc shop when it comes to purchasing one. The drive from San Diego to Modesto isn't that bad if they're willing to offer excellent customer service.
