View Full Version : Sat. 6/16 Ride RESULTS

Just another thread to end 6/16, as the other threads were pre-ride clusters. I'm sure Devin and other lurkers wonder how it turned out, lol :moon
Well, just nucking futs, IcePick, Larry, and I met at the Chevron @ 5/74....not unexpected, as it was out of the way for the LA riders. We rode Ortega and as we exited the mountain in Lake Elsinore, we ran upon (new face) Reckless, but he couldn't ride longer today.
We assumed the LA crew (Will, Julio, Anthony, and friends) would go PAST the 15/74 to the 15/76 to meet Gonzo, cuz that's what Will said :popcorn. But we decided to stop at the 15/74 anyway in case lurkers/someone was trying to meet up in this MOST NATURAL of spots. After a 10 minute break we were about to suit up and go.....and then HERE THEY COME....Will, Julio, Anthony, and 3 friends!! :lmao.
So, we have 10 riders to go down to Palomar and hopefully meet up with Gonzo and RRnold. We take the 15 Fwy to the 79 Fwy and head towards Palomar....sorry Gonzo, we didn't make it to the 15/76 :blush. The 79Hwy road is a winding country-type in some mild hills and we are just cruising along in a long line. I'm riding in the 8th spot...suddenly the guy ahead of me runs wide, fixates, and highsides it into the dirt :(. Three of us stop, the rider is fine and after 10 minutes we get the bike started.
I mention I'm going to go ahead and try to catch the others, but I'm running out of riding time since I had to get home at a specific time. Now I figure I'll just go straight to Palomar and get a run up/down, hopefully run into the group at some point, meet RRnold/Gonzo, and head home. But, as I get within 10 miles of Palomar, the watch says I won't make it up/down and back without issues....so I head home :rolleyes. I did see the group as I was heading back, hopefully the ride went smooth and was a blast :cool. Let's hear the stories!
Catch y'all next run....

This one was doomed from the start, sorry to hear about the spill. I hope the rider's ok (and I hope it wasn't a 1098 that went down, is that wrong?).

it did not go well, well at least for me it didnt.
We actually all did meet up, we rode Paly for a while ( or at least some of us did ) Then we decide to go get some food, were going to some place down the fast side of Paly. We get to the bottom and....wait a minute, were missing a person.
Nobody else seemed to want to go look for him so i turned around and the group said they would wait for me. So i go back, i dont find him, I come back to where the group was......and everyones gone. I asume they went to the restaurant, which i told them that i didnt know where it was.
Nice, real nice guys.
So i say "fuck this bullshit" and ride home.
Needless to say, im not going to bother with this forum next time i try to set up a ride.

don't worry Doc... you guys forgot me +2 of our crew. we just said F' that, the 1098 crew thinks us jap bikes aren't good enough to eat lunch with. wish you had stayed back with us... we ended up eating at a pizzeria in Temecula and having cute 18 year old workers flirting with us.... well at least we could impress teenage girls with our bikes and tight leathers... anyways.. i'll ride with you any day Gonzo.

Ok here's my side of the story! I let my house around 7:15 and get up to Palomar around 8:15 or so and to my surprise Mother's is closed Sat and Sun!
There was only me and two other bikes there so I did a couple runs solo and ended up meeting John -954to1098 at the bottom. We run all the way up to top and then see DrGonzo-Shaun, Rick7r and Jock-Socal1098 @ Mothers. We did a couple runs and I had to bail around noon and head to Forza.
As John and I were heading down near the big turn out, I see a sh*t load of 1098's all heading up! This had to be all you late bloomers! :laugh

Honestly, we waited there for a long while. Long enough to chat up some locals who were complaining about Harley riders and also some cagers who honked at us ceaselessly. We watched a CRV fly by in the opposite lane while trying to pass a Camry. Then some truckers came by and almost took us out so we decided to vacate the premises.
Then after what seemed like forever, we figured Gonzo round Rick and the other SCSers down the front side and we'll see them at La Ranchita since Rick636 said he was going there as well.
None of us had cell reception and we didn't get any until we got out to Temecula. Warner Springs has no cell coverage. We all tried to call Rick or Steve at the 1st T intersection and the gas station and La Ranchita but there was no reception to be had. I couldn't even get internet on my phone to post a message to at least see if anyone can get it online.
The guy that went down is Otabai (Eric T.) from SCS on his 2006 GSXR750. Amazingly, his leather had no scratches whatsoever and the dirt wiped off to reveal pristine cowhide.
His bike was scuffed up but no broken bits other than a frame slider that went MIA. His passenger peg saved his tail fairing. The major damage was to the rear brake lever which bent inwards but was useable and actually is more aerodynamic now.

well you guys knew how long the road was, since we were just on it. I was gone MAYBE 30min and no I never found Rick, did anyone get into contact with him?
IcePick06
06-16-2007, 07:43 PM
Yeah Gonzo, I don't know what happened but we waited for what seemed like hours at that spot. After a while, the group figured that you had caught up with Rick and the rest of the SCS crew and headed elsewhere. We didn't have any cellphone reception like Will said, so we couldn't call either and it was getting late, so a couple of us (including myself) had to head home; since I didn't know how to get to the restaurant either I had to follow the group out. Hope your ride was fun anyway, and since nobody on this forum crashed, I'd call it a successful birthday ride :slam
Oh, RRnold, sorry we missed you man...hopefully, we'll see you on the next ride.
In the future, we definitely NEED MUCH BETTER COMMUNICATION. We had just left Mother's as a group and nobody said they were departing so we all assumed we were going down the backside. Also, we had way too many meeting spots, good thing I said "let's stop at the Chevron on the 15/74" or we would've left Anthony, Will, Julio, and the two SCSr's too :lol. I need everybody's cell phone # too so please PM me your phone numbers guys

No worries Mark!
I was hanging out with DrGonzo-Shaun, John 954to1098, Jock Socal1098 and Rick636 throughout the morning.
Sucks, we bailed out before you guys were heading up. I saw a pack so that had to be you guys. It's a good thing we left when we did. The morning wasn't busy @ all and once the mountain started to get clustered, I knew it was time to call it a day. Glad you guys had fun and made it back safe.
I'm not really a fan of huge group rides but if one gets planned in the near future, you guys need to get your sh*t together! :shakeheadNone of this multiple meeting spots b/c that just kills time. Have one meeting spot and leave the lag time down to 30 mins. Not having each other's phone number sucks but for real, this ain't kindergarten ya'tches! :poke :lol

Inspite of all the miscues for meeting times and places we still managed to get together. Big thanks to Mark for suggesting we stop at the Chevron on 15/74 just in case you guys showed up, sure enough you did.

Yeah, the Puma design really lightens the unsprung weight on my foot so that I can activate the foot controls that much faster for better response. I hear it is worth up to 2 seconds a lap and that would explain Randy DePuniet's stellar performance last round at Catalunya.

Take some white out or painter's tape and you're done.
Then again, you do have a great selection of Z1R or HJC green helmets to match your Kawasaki. I think it might go as high as KBC or even Skorpion for matching a Kawi.
Too bad the top helmets like the Corsair and Extreme are made to match top bikes like the 1098s.

That's why I like my Sidi Corsa's. The instep part is covered by the buckle so all the dirt is hidden, and there's so much armor on the boots that the white doesn't get too dirty...if there's any dirt you can't clean, I just use my white Tire Pen to touch up the leather :cool
