How about we start a 'Continually updated Art & Photography thread'

Ducatis or otherwise for us to comment constructively upon.

Here's what I meen....
Just out and about Friday and was just trying to fulfill a magazine challenge to shoot 'Patterns'
Wished I'd had a tripod with me as I couldn't get the right combo of Aperture and speed. Believe I was at .4sec at F4
Any comments welcome , because I cant decide which crop and or colour I prefer

Another pic I took whilst in an office reception.
Dont normally mess about too much but liked how the blinds on the right look neon and the skylights have turned black as if it were night time.

No, not at all. I took them last December while I was doing my military service in the airforce, we had a very cold December and at the camp it looked like more like a snow-storm. The forest looked (and I think it's "captured" in one photo) scary :)

I like to take pictures, and I don't claim to be anyone but a n00b with a digital camera..... I just like to snap and see what comes out. I have no idea about colors, and light, and stuff like that...
Here are a few I took of my daughter this past spring while on vacation.

What cam are you using?

Canon S2 or something like that - 5.1 mp cheapy

I really need to get a good camera, but the Canon is small so I can carry it with me on bike trips. And that's where I take 99% of my pictures. Never have enough room to carry too much camera equipment with me.

Just via Iphoto.

As for B&W,as our dog is B&W in the real world it seemed appropriate. I also did it because it took the interest away from the cusions in the background.

hey Greg,
what lens do you use for the close ups? I have a 300 zoom lens on my Canon digital rebel but it doesn't give me quite the level of detail like you have in your pics.

Also, any tips for taking night time pics?

good morning:

on some of the shots your saw, i used the 70-200 f/2.8 VR lens, handheld
it has an approx. 5 feet close focusing ability, which works well in the orchard garden
i also have a 60mm f/2.8 micro.... needs a tripod

as for your night time picture issues...
i also put the camera on a very sturdy tripod
and use an OFF-CAMERA shutter triggering device... there are many for a canon, of course
it's take a few extra minutes to set up
but....
i usually set the camera at
f/8 or f/11
iso 200
BULB....
and just try different exposure lengths
my external shutter trigger has a "BEEP" at 1-second intervals

in fairly dark situations... i usually end up having a 2-8 second exposure..... but, that varies quite a bit, of course

sometimes, you have to MANUALLY FOCUS.... if it is quite dark

good luck
and we'd love to see some of your images here

an example of an image with my D200 and 70-200 f/2.8 VR
handheld
at f/2.8
bright sun
i LOVE the nice "BOKEH" or blur effect of this lens

as opposed to THIS....
from an ARTIFICIAL arrangement hanging from our front door....
with some "watercolor" photoshop effect
