View Full Version : Store your bike outside?

Moved into a house without a garage and now I'm stuck without a place to store my soon to arrive 1098. I was thinking about buying a "POD" and sticking it in my back yard. Other options would include a 8x10 trailer (removing wheels for anti theft) I'm concerned about humidity and temperature, but that could be resolved with a golden rod or space heater...
If a structure is less than 100 sq ft, then the local zoning laws would allow a garden shed or something similar in the back yard. Does anyone have experience or advice? I might have to break down and build a damn garage for 15K or something similar...
Thanks in advance!
This would be my solution to the no garage problem.
No way I would let the 1098 sit outside.

Swing by home depot.. Get a nice shed for the backyard... Build it nice.. throw the bike in it and cover it up.. Granted I live in So. Cal where the weather is always nice... but it's a cheaper option.

has anyone used this type of storage device? looks like a 300 dollar tent to me that would provide protection similar to a bike cover...

Never seen it.. I imagine it would work under light weather conditions or if it was put under a back awning or porch with a cover.. but if it rained hard enough or snowed.. I imagine it would cave it after a few storms?
I picked up an aluminum shed from Home Depot that took myself and my fiance 4 hours to build :( . I store my lawnmower and gardening stuff in, as well as a minibike etc.. It was only $250 and works great.. It would surley fit a motorcycle. It get's a little hot in there during the summer though.. and it was a PAIN in the arss to build..

Yeah. I'm wanting to avoid building anything at this point in time as the zoning laws and neighborhood regulations are a pain in the arse for a garden shed or backyard storage. I contacted "PODS" corporation to see if they would sell me an 8x8x12 steel storage container, but they dont sell to the public. There's also the 20 ft rail and ship containers for sale around 2000 bucks, but my neighbors would shoot me for setting that up in the back yard (within city limits of CLT NC)
I'm going to probably end up buying an enclosed 8x12 trailer and try to regulate temp/humidity for permanant storage of my 2 bikes. I could take the wheels off to deter anyone from stealing the whole thing, but that is still going to look like arse in my back yard.

Yeah, but those cats are bachelors and I am not! plus a 28 inch access door limits my ability to roll it into the flex room for storage...

Yeah roll it inside and keep it indoor. I did that for a summer when I was between houses, no problems.
Kick her out of the house if she won't let the bike come inj/k :lmao

NOT if the mortgage is in her name and I'm paying rent. It's her effin' house and I'm merely a guest with benefits!

When I lived in an apartment with a carport, I parked my MV Agusta in the living room. I laid some heavy rubber mats like the ones used for home gym equipment and put it up on a rear stand. I then put some standing lights with pivoting heads so they point to it like an art piece.
My GSXR I left outside, but I covered it with a locking cover and hooked it up to an utility pole with a Kryptonite New York Chain.
The day I bought a house with a garage was the best day of my 2-wheeled life. I literally spent the first 2 months sitting in the garage every minute I was free. Moving the bikes around, reconfiguring the layout, buying the checkered floorboard rubber pieces, putting up posters and pictures, stacking tools and work materials, etc.
Now I am thinking of the Powerstands work/display table.
