I think I like this one better, it captures the background better except for that minivan. Doh!

Cool pics, thanks for sharing Arnie! I'm not really a fan of Ortega since it's squid and crash central but a nice stretch of road once you get past the restaurant.

:1 Thanks for the pics. Brings back old memories. But as long as one remains disciplined it's still a fun road if you get out there early enough. No need to speed--I'd just ignore the squids and have fun. Technical twisties, especially the carousel and the feeling of getting out into nature even though it's in OC's backyard.

But ya, once people start pushing the limits it'll kill ya real quick, if not just financially with the OC-side heavily patrolled double-fine zone.... And by 9am forget it, my RC-51 would overheat routinely in the slow traffic, even if it was among a Ferrari concourse on more than one occasion.

How's it been treating you guys lately?

Ortega is my quick fix since I live close by. It's a means to an end for me. I like San Diego county roads much better.

It breaks my heart to think of what I’m missing. I’m giving myself a 6-8 yr window from now to muster the testiculars to pick up and move out of IL. It would be a total disruption of my life but it looks like it is worth it. You have no idea how we starve for roads like that!

Some of us do. After I graduated from the Univeristy of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (home of the worlds oldest experimental corn field) my kinfolk said "Kev move away from there", said "Californy is the place you ought to be", so I loaded up the Z and moved to Sunny-V. Vale, that is. Microchips, lonely nerds.

So I loaded up the Z and moved to Santa B. Barbara, that is. Swimmin pools, movie stars. Plus the fact that you can live in someone's old tool shed for just over a million dollars.

Seriously, run don't walk to your nearest IL border. I've been in CA 9 years now and never once regretted it. The nearest twisties are a mile from my house. I just make my folks visit me out here instead of seeing them back there.

I know what you're going through. I lived in Chicago and the burbs for 15 years then moved to Minneapolis for another ten. I'm glad to be in SoCal where I can enjoy my bikes twelve months out of the year. :)

like u, me, and million others thats what we did. I moved from detroit to L.A after college and dont think i'll ever live anywhere other than socal in the states and i've been all over the map. Just keep in mind, CHPs are the most un-tolerant there is.

My thoughts exactly. I am graduating in less than a month from NCSU and hope to move out there, if the job search comes through. With some luck, my girlfriend and I will run into you guys on the great roads in SoCal. Here is for hoping...
