Picked up my 1098s finally after 3 months of waiting. Damn Ducati NA for making me wait for praise Ducati for making this awesome bike!

The only problem was on the way home, it overheated on the streets and shut down and I couldn't start it for 3 minutes. (Felt like 3 hours)

Then my knee keeps rubbing the fairing at the front and I can see where a spot of paint might be in trouble. Anyone have the same problem? Any solutions? I feel like putting some tape over it or something but not sure what's the good thing to do.

Congrats Lawman! In high engine heat my bike has shut off too. I thought I saw some talking about it today. I have a little of the knee problem too so would agree something needs to get figured out. 3M?

Congrats! Some of these issues that I'm reading about is somewhat starting to make me wonder and worried at times; stalling, overheating, pieces falling off?! :dunno

Man... the paint on the bike is super soft! I saw some fingerprints underneath the passenger cowl and used a napkin to wipe it and now it's all swirly. Thank God it's under the cowl and nobody will see it! Time for some wax and elbow grease tomorrow.

I have over 600 miles on mine and have not experienced any of what you stated. The stalling is very fixable. I've been in stop and go traffic and had the bike hit 200 plus on the temp and it hasn't shut off. Pieces falling off? I've not heard of that one.

:1 I am rethinking my purchase. If you total the percentages of those here with new bikes and the amount of issues, it runs high. I live in South Florida and summer is a bitch. Even with the "air" cooled Harley I never stalled in traffic. It may be an easy fix but reports of bolts falling off is unacceptable. I can only wonder what waits undiscovered yet.

Well I really hope that something good comes out of this sooner or later b/c for a $20K motorcycle, my expectation threshold is set pretty damn high and to hear something like this is pretty sad.

Not to sound like an ass but welcome to the world of limited production motor vehicles... ask an exotic car owner how care free their $200k+ vehicle is. More money does not buy perfection. In fact, often the opposite is true.

You sure don't sound like an ass. I guess we all love Ducati's, no matter what but do they love us back?
I have a friend who had a Ferrari in the 80's and he broke down a hell of a lot. I just find for me personally that when it comes to a motorcycle there is less margin for error. The wrong bolt falling off can spell disaster. As an Italian born and raised in Italy, I can tell you about Italian workers. Lets just say they are not the Japanese. Sometimes you need to go with your gut and mine says, I am out for this year. Calling Ducati to hold my deposit until next year. Sure I'll pay more but just maybe they will tighten the bolts and keep it idling. No more posts from me, so best of luck to everyone and ride safe.

Yeah, Ducati loves us back enough to raise the prices next year by $1,000 since it sold out at MSRP this year. Love Love Love. I hate to see it when they hate us.

Oh by the way, if you are thinking about carrying stuff in the tail compartment, DON'T!

I put my phone and garage door opener in there wrapped in a bandana for padding and it still wore a spot through the paint. Now I have a bare primer spot inside. Guess a sticker will have to do to patch it.

I wouldn't classify the 1098 as "limited production", maybe if they only made 500 units. I know the Ducati's breathe sexyness and appeal but have the Italian's forgot about the term "quality" or how about attention to detail!? I was 2 Ducati shops comparing an external aftermarket company vs the DP carbon fiber stuff and the DP stuff looked like junk, seriously! :shakehead

It's all relative I guess. But I wasn't really talking about the 1098 specifically anyway. Ducati makes maybe 40,000 vehicles per year total. They're a niche market. A lot of companies wouldn't even bother quoting something for them because the numbers just aren't there. So in my eyes the fact that it's a Ducati is enough to make it considered limited production.

FWIW - I think the best selling vehicle I've done a part for sold 700,000+ per year...

True, well since they aren't as mass produced as say, Honda which checked in at around 10,721,000 units for 06 one would figure that they would pay more attention to detail. :dunno

Nice bike! I hope you're spending all your free time in the garage staring at it...lol

What do you expect with a painted trunk? Some sort of magic paint that can withstand wear? Other bikes don't have this problem because other bikes don't care what the inside of the trunk looks like. Most people don't. But because Ducati went out of their way to paint the inside, you make a joke about the quality of the bike? Doesn't make a lot of sense to me. Would you prefer black plastic like other bikes? If so, then that's cool, but it wouldn't make it any higher quality.

Not to say it's alright because it isn't... but having owned other Italian bikes, it's par for the course. You'll never get it like how the Japanese have it, that's just reality. Right or wrong.

There were tons of haters today on my first canyon ride. Whatevers. I'll hear what you're saying better when you have one, until then, it's all talk.

I guess everyone is an apologist for poor workmanship. If you are gonna do it do it right! It is NOT just about paint coming off it is about loose bolts, some falling off, stalling, engine shutting down, overheating, cambelt pulleys, parts falling off the tail, etc. and this is only the beginning.
"Ducati going out of their way?" you kill me. Last I heard we are paying around 20 grand for that gift. No excuse, IMHO the Emperor has no cloths.

I have not had any of the issues you've described above. if you're that disappointed (and you don't even have a 1098) then you shouldn't get one and quit bitching. Nobody's forcing you to buy one.

Dude, if I spent US$23,000 for a bike and I want to pose and show it off, that's my prerogative. At least I am honest about it. The Italians did not design the Ducati and other masterpieces so they can be hidden away and not seen. It's a work of art that people should see to appreciate.

If I want a bike to thrash and not give a hoot about, I'll ride a Suzuki like I do on the racetrack. You won't catch me on a Japanese bike on the streets, that's for sure.

The Fazer is an I4; totally different in every way from a L2. You know, apples and oranges, figs and olives.
