I do this on every bike i own.. looks pretty nice and the dirt has a harder time sticking to it..

First i used a drill with polish "thingies" with rough polish chemicals.

Then i just used Autosol (Kromepolish) with the fablic looking polish disc (right word?)

http://www.autosol.com/home.htm

Takes a few hours but it's worth it. :)

Nice Eric! I got my bike friday with full termi 70mm in a box. I have never paid this much for that kind of crap quality. I could even get close to those welds myself.

Looks like I have to do some polishing myself, it looks good!

Exactly. $2600 usd for the Termi's, you got to be kidding me. The pipes look good but everything else looks like shit! :shakehead

After seeing the Akrapovics, there isn't an exhaust system that comes close to looking so nice on the 1098. Until the Moto Corse system is revealed and pics don't do justice but the Akra's are by far the best bang for the buck!

Eric, the polished pipes look so much better and cleaner.

I paid $3200, does that make my pipes worse? :dunno
But everything cost more over here in europe so we are used to it.

I finally got around to polish my system aswell. This is how I would like them to be when I got them from ducati. I will not mount it until I have done the first service (1000km) so I can get my dealer to adjust the throttlels.

Hi fellas,

Can anyone tell me the exact tools / chemicals used? I've got a mate who worked as a metal fabricator and said he will do it for me. He just asked what did the other guys use to do it.

Also will the pipes change colour do to the heat?

Stainless turns a brownish gold color when it gets hot. Yes, they'll discolor.

Depends really.. Maybe 4-5 hours in all if you want a really good gloss on the system.

Having a good jig to mount your powerdrill helps.

Thanks for the pics fellas. I was thinking about doing this myself, but now I'm convinced after seeing your photos. Of course it would help if I had a 'zaust to polish first...

Well done my pipes today, took around 4 hours I reckon. Mate gave me some drill sanding bits. One was a 150 grit sander and the other was that tuff cloth like material. I found the that tuff cloth like material worked really well, Its come up real nice with a brushed chrome look.

Now when I assemble it I plan to start her up a bit to let the pipes heat up and change colour. What should I clean it with before I do this? Mate gave me the 3M stainless steel cleaner/polish but I read somewhere that polishs will show up and discolour due to the heat. Anyone confirm?

Tks

The Chrome-polish we use usually discolores to GOLD or Gold/bluish when it gets hot.

We use Autosol chromepolish.
