I was at Buttonwillow again today for a trackday, guess what I see zoom by on the the track!!!

You guessed it a 1098s....:scooter The rider was a test rider for motorcyclist magazine. I was riding in level 3 (fastest group) and he was in level 2, to bad for that. He was having a hard time with the setup. (nose dive on breaking)

He did come for one session in level 3 later in the day, but I didnt run into him on the track. :dunno

He was getting hounded pretty good by everyone, so I didnt get to ask to many questions. :(

Here are the pictures (how did that zx10r get in there) :)

Cool, that looks like Brian Catterson and his wife Angie Loy-Catterson in the last pic. I think she is riding a 2006 GSXR-750 for the mag as a long term tester. He is probably like me, over the ideal weight for the stock suspension, and that would explain his dive issues!

Motorcyclist is a good mag, can't wait to read all about it.

Here's a few more random shot's from the the trackday.

(notice the Ducati garage $$$$) lots of Ducs today.

Also look at the front view with my ZX10R in the picture. No wonder the 04/05 10R's have heat problems.......:poke Also she sure looks low compared to the 1098.

I was lined up in the first session next to Angie (level 3) She is one fast gal...:shock I stayed with her but was unable to pass!

Just to clarify: My 2004 ZX10R is highly modified, 15k in mods! Race cam, full Akra evoII, BST wheels, Brembo Master, thin head gasket, ohlins forks, penski 3way, and many more.

I remember when the 2004 ZX10R came out and won the master bike shootout, It was almost un rideable at speed on a track.

Lets see, after buying all that, I dialed in my dampner, ride height, sag, compresion and rebound damp, Low and high speed! I added links to my chain to increase my wheel base by moving my rear wheel back.

You get the picture....

Nice! It looks like the pits were pretty empty! I'm heading there this Sun with Ti2TT so hopefully there's some 1098's for me to poop on! :lol

I saw it too Katoom! I thought it sounded pretty good for a stock bike. As a matter of fact, I saw a Green ZX-10R in Level 3 and wondered if it was you, but I never cruised around the pits to find out. I went with my buddy and it was a fun day...rode in Lvl 1 with my friend who was a track virgin then went to Lvl 2...it was my first time @ Buttonwillow. It is a fun track, but it was VERY WINDY, and I thought we were using the Long test drag strip for the straightwaway...it seemed kinda short :dunno

In any case, I prefer Cali Speedway as it's more fun for me and also much closer. I plan on going in April :)

from that angle yes.....it was a sell out....the Motorcyclist folks were on the 3rd tier back. They thought they would be stealthy...:poke

Who was hosting and which configuration where you running? I never liked BW backwards but this weekend event, it's the normal configuration (clockwise) with the short T2, lost hills and the sweeper.

btw-Chicken Hawks rock! I love mine and just got them back from service! :notworthy

Isn't the original AFM layout race configuration 13-clockwise with lost hills? I thought only for last year they decided to run it backwards minus lost hill and the long backstraight for the first time!?!?

Hey Katoom, did you see those two kids out there in Lvl 2 and Lvl 3? One looked like he was about 14 or 15yrs old on an Aprila RS250 and the other looked like he was about 12yrs old on an 125 GP bike.

If it's the same kid on the 125 that I remember, it's probably Cameron Beaubier!

Damn those kids... well not really. It's good to see that the parents started them young.

It's very humbling to get passed by a kid who's not even in high school yet. If you watch the video "FASTER" you know that John "Hopper" was schooling folks on the track when he was only 14 yrs old...now he's one of the fastest riders in the world.

I wish my parents had got me into riding bikes sooner...I'd be a lot better by now for sure :(

I used to watch Nicky Hayden race at our club in Texas when he was young, 12-13 and on until he went pro. He was out there on his little 125 spanking the heck out of all these guys on their Formula 1 prepared bikes (etc.) that had been racing for years. I was pretty sure he was going places.... :notworthy

I am starting my daughter this year on a local track program for young kids. She will be starting out on 125GP style bikes (Metrakit for those who know them). She is 14.

I will be so proud when she makes it to the big track and starts handing my ass to me!

Gotta love kids!!

Cheers!

That's awesome, keep us posted!

There's a young girl by the name of Elena Myers who's doing big things in the motorcycle racing circuit.

Lucky daughter and father. I can't imagine how cool it will be to ride with your daughter. As corny as it sounds, one of my favorite things to do is to ride with my dad, street or track. Alas, it doesn't happen enough.
