View Full Version : What other bikes do you own?

Ara

While patiently waiting for my 1098, I was wondering what bikes other Members own and are currently riding while patiently waiting for thier 1098's?
I own a 2007 Triumph Sprint ST. I bought this for multi day trips. I'll be riding this bike, not my 1098, to Laguna for the Moto GP and AMA Superbike races.

03 999... I think Im going to turn the 999 to a full trace/race bike and just use the 1098 as track and special engagements. (Ducati lunchs/cruises/etc)

'01 Erion 929 and a beater '00 GSXR600 trackbike that I'm about to replace with something newer (no...not tracking the 1098, yet!)

I ride an '06 ZX-6R. I will put track plastics on it once the 1098 arrives as it is primarily set up for trackdays now (everything minus the sharkskinz). I'm also gonna buy the titanium headers to convert my Akra slip into a full system for max HP.

However, I'll be riding the 1098 to Laguna for the races this year, and will finally be able to park on Ducati Island :)

1966 250 Monza (That's another Ducati, you young 'uns)
1966 160 Monza Jr. (Yep. You guessed it)

The last three are/were project bikes. The 750 was ridden last summer for the first time in who knows how many years, and will likely become my main ride this summer. The 160 is in progress right now, and the 250 sits awaiting it's day in the shop, though the collection of parts around it is growing... (Once they are done, the 250 and 160 won't look anything like they did when they left the factory)

EDIT: A few project pics can be seen in the "Fear This" thread - http://www.1098-forum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=71

Nice scooter you got there, yep the blue one! :scooter Do the slipper clutch mod and it'll be smoother sailing :slam

WARNING - IF YOU ARE CONCERNED ABOUT YOUR WARRANTY CONSULT WITH YOUR LOCAL YAMAHA DEALER BEFORE ATTEMTPING THIS MODIFICATION AS IT MAY VOID YOUR WARRANTY.

The modification itself is pretty straight forward but does require some attention to detail.

You're going for 11 in the exploded view of the clutch below. You'll need to pull the clutch cover off, no need to drain the oil but make sure the engine is cool. Then remove the pressure plate, 2 in the picture, and the clutch boss nut that holds the basket in, 10 in the picture. The clutch boss nut has small detents in it just like the countershaft sprocket nut so make sure you bend them back out before attempting to remove it. And use an impact gun, other wise you're going to have to come up with a way to hold the basket while you crank on the nut.

Once you've got the nut removed you'll see the three Y springs, 11 in the picture. Just pull one of these and then put everything back together. Make sure you punch the detents on the clutch boss nut back in once you've installed it and when installing the pressure plate tighten the six bolts in an alternating pattern like you would when changing a flat tire. I'd also suggest using a new gasket and sealer for the clutch cover to ensure there are no leaks when you're finished.

http://tinyurl.com/v7ph4

One thing to make sure of when you install the pressure plate. There is a punch mark on the pressure plate that you must line up with one of the three punch marks on the basket as pictured below. The pressure plate will go in incorrectly if you aren't paying attention. A buddy of mine made this mistake and ended up replacing his clutch plates and basket. Plus the slipper won't function at all.

http://tinyurl.com/v4458

Torque specs for installation:
Clutch Cover Bolts - 8.7 ft-lbs (1.2 m-kg)
Clutch Boss Nut (10) - 85 ft-lbs (11.5 m-kg)
Pressure Plate Bolts (1) - 5.8 ft-lbs (0.8 m-kg)

No problem. I don't know if you felt the slipper on the R6 but it sucks compared to the Kawi's version.

One thing to make sure when removing the Y springs is that only one of the Y springs you cut all 3 fingers off. Make sure to replace it no cut/cut/no cut order back in the clutch basket. There was some follow ups from the guy who posted this on the R6 forum and originally he just pulled out 1 of them out and then put back the pressure plate back on.

I never had multiple bikes 'til last year, but it's WAY cooler to have choices.

Willie G. Davidson once said every rider should have 5 different types of motorcycles, and Harley didn't even sell 3 of those types at that time.

I was thinking of a Vintage one but they are only 150cc. Plus would have has to do a fair bit of research to find a good one.

They're great for the beach. Ride 'em in your shorts, go for a swim, go shopping & park it on the sidewalk.

Yeah, I guess I do kinda like riding it a bit. Anything on two wheels is good.

A burgerman 650 with BST's, ohlins etc maybe:lol

Do they make BST's for them ?

We have Ohlins shocks, but no cart kits.

I do have Cart kits for the forks made by the Italian Ohlins Dist.

1991 Nissan Skyline GT-R, the car's a plain fat old pig, but boy does it go...718bhp, 1.9 bars boost pressure, around $120,000 in the engine alone...and it's still slower than a bike :(

BMW looks great!!
I do have one question, how do you measure 100 HP "at the crank"??

you can't of course, it's a guesstimate based on 87.4 at the rear wheel, up from, I think stock pulls around 73-ish. BMW quotes an 85bhp crank hp number, add 14 to that, and you're around a hundred, at least how I figure :)
