Your local Pirelli dealer will likely offer you a competitive price and service you cannot get from a "superstore". Support your local shop, franchised or independent!!!
I agree price is important, however, if price is our only motivating factor we probably shouldn't be riding motorcycles, especially Ducati motorcycles...In most cases your local dealers will work with you if you give them the opportunity.
I belive it's important to build relationships with local dealers...what better way to do that than patronize their business. When you need something they are there to help.
I've been motorcycling for 25 years; my local dealers know me by name and are always willing solve problems, show me new products, invite me on dealer rides and engage in motorcycling conversations...
We ride because we're passionate about the sport, why would we buy products from order takers who don't give a damn about us.
btw: I'm not speaking about our site supporters...these guys generally offer specialty products and services that may not be found locally. I appreciate the time and effort our site supporters give to this forum.
Gar1: I agree with your reasoning! I do not like to haggle for parts/mods when I get good service. It’s a win/win situation.
However, I think buying "tires" is like buying food at the supermarket: I want quality product but also a good price as I will be buying tires as often as I buy groceries - or almost - I do not think there is anything wrong with looking around for a good price on 'repetitive purchase'.
Also, there is a difference between getting a good deal on repetitive purchase and haggling or nickel & dimming. As you so well explained, we have an expensive hobby; we have to live up to the sport.
Best,
AJ
