I dropped my front wheel off at a local shop that I have dealt with for a few years now to get a newer take off put on it... I walk up front to let them know my Ducati wheel is in the back and to not let anyone touch it except for ______... Owner says you got it Andy... I'll have ______ take care of it 1st thing, I'll call you when it's done...

One hour later I get a phone call from ______ and he says my FNG took it upon himself to change your tire and FOCKED UP your wheel, you need to come look at it and let me know what you want to do... As soon as I saw it I said I want a new wheel and I want to talk to the guy who fucked it up!!!

We go back to the shop and the kid didn't even speak to me at first... So we sat down and I explained that I can appreciate him taking the initiative on changing out tires, but you had better know what your doing before doing so... I told him he made a very costly mistake and handed him the bill for a NEW wheel... It will be deducted from his paycheck a lil at a time so he does not get slammed...

I also told him that he is lucky I am not the violent type of person that lat him say his peace and then gave him a face full of fist... Also do you have any idea what a Ducati is? He said no not really... I said they are the ferrari of motorcycles... Are Ferrari's expensive...? Yes sir... So are Ducati's... Don't touch my stuff anymore!!!

It's rideable, but looks like total shit...

Sucks doesn't it, but at the same point, I have seen skilled professionals make a slight mistake that ends up chipping, or scratching tires... These things can happen.

At least they are going to take care of you, some shops just shrug their shoulders, or claim it was like that when you got it, and what are ya gonna do right?

Anyways,

I have a perfect OEM front wheel for sale if you want it.

I gave my R1 rims and a set of race tires to a local guy he scratched them up good. since it is my track bike I didnt say anything. he wont be getting a crack at my ducati rims.:guns

I only trust a handful of people to change out my tyres. Most of them can do it in their sleep and use plastic rim protectors when they do ANY work involving the wheels. Never had one back yet with a problem. Sorry to hear of your problems, but at least they admitted responsibility for their mistake and that the young lad is not being punished too heavy handedly for what appears to be inexperience as the real culprit (though his boss should not have let him do the work without supervision or prior approval / training, and assuming he had your prior permission to do so)

God if I was that kid I'd just quit. It's mostly his bosses fault. Sticking the kid with the entire responsibility in a dick move on the part of the shop owner. I would consider you wheel damaged by poor management.

Thats true, and a good point.

Unless the kid was specifically told Not to touch the wheel, it is the managements fault, and I would have left in a second if I was him.

The management is responsible for making sure that anybody who is allowed to change tires is properly trained to do so.

There were times when I managed a Cycle Gear store that one of the wheels we would swap tires on would get a scuff, scratch, or chip.

Sometimes it seemed inevitable due to poor finishing on the actual wheels themselves (cheap-ass chrome jobs would just flake off rim when the beads pop).

But I never once made one of my employees pay out of their pocket.

It was just a cost of doing business that the business must absorb.

This sucks. Hopefully you'll get a wheel with the '08 Marchesini stickers on it (with the Italian flag) so it doesn't match the rear; then you can get a new rear.

I guess it depends how much damage he caused. It sounds like you over reacted a bit but then again, I haven't seen the damage......

The guys I usually use charge me a whopping $30 (The dealer charges $70) to swap tires and they generally do a damned good job without scratching the rims.

The last time one of the young guys in the shop decided to swap out the tire and he did leave a couple small nicks in the paint. Personally, I don't see that as such a big deal because I've gotten nicks in the rims from just riding around. I have some matching paint at home and it takes all of 5 min to fix.

I figured it's better to accept a nick or two here and there than pay more than twice as much, drive 5 times the distance, and wait 4 times as long, for the very same service.

It may be a Ducati but, it's still just a bike. It picks up nicks and chips from road debris every day. It doesn't really bother me at all.....

it does not realy how much damaged was caused. it is just a wheel and can be fixed or replaced. think about the kid you yelled at. how can you fix that???

RADRB8 sounds like more than nicks and scuffing, exactly what damage did he do to it that makes the shop owner make a point of it?

I can't speak for your state, but some state employment laws forbid a business from assigning monetary penalty to an employee. Your dealer better check so he does'nt get sued by the kid.

What if I was (based on an industry I was in) to eff up and trash a large several hundred dollar machine. I'd be toast. Or say, a nurse that botches a dosage and kills a patient. That's what business insurance is for.

Yeah, young guys ruined parts on customer bikes when I was in the bike biz. I just grimaced and replaced the part for the customer. But if the employee was a klutz he'd be down the road soon.

Same in the military, you don't see a helicopter pilot getting the bill for torching a USD$1,500,000 turboshaft engine because the fooker didn't read his checklist correctly after a night out on the town......the dumbass...sorry guys personnal maintenance experience :)

11" of the outer lip has as much as 1/8" the metal gone and more where the foot first caught the rim...

I could live with the usual nicks and dings from tire changing, but this is alot more than that...

Thanks for asking :thumbup

Yep I'd be pissed as well and be asking for a new wheel from the shop, they keep the old one as a 'what not to do' momento to hang on the wall.
