Would anyone know if this is a worldwide recall? Has anyone from Oz gotten any mail regarding this?

Nope. I got this off another thread that no doubt you've read. It seems I'm safe if this info is correct..
From the recall info:
"As of 5th December 2007 the modified sprocket flowed into production
from frame no. ZDM1XBEW38B014360 for US models and from frame no.
ZDMH700AA7B013062 EU versions."
It's the rear sprocket on the earlier models, so if you have a model prior to these chassis numbers, you just need your dealer to check it and record its been checked / changed. the later sprocket has a larger web between the cush drive mounts.

I posted this link on the earlier thread. Its for the Australian recall. I am not aware of anyone having received any notification from the dealer though.

Don't quote me on this, but I have a ball bag feeling that the problem hubs where 43mm right thru.
The later units changed to 41mm / 43mm, tube wall thicker at chain end.
I may possibly be wrong.
There is a photo here somewhere, it shows the diff between the old and new designed sproket so its real easy to tell, the bad one has a narrow band between the actual teeth and the large holes and the newie has 2 or 3 times more material.
When I baught mine I told the tech I will take delivery after the sproket was replaced if it was nesacary and he seemed to have no idea, but he qualified that by saying that none of there bikes had broke????? Same with the stall issue, he claims none are stalling either, but the first one i rode last year kept stalling......alll day?

The old design has less meat between the circles the carrier cush drives sit in. Mine is of the older type, lean with very little added metal and my bike is 11/07. Will call frasers tomorrow...

The change in tube wall thickness at chain end must have a bearing.

Received my re-call letter yesterday. My bike was shipped to Aus in Oct 07.

my tech told me he has ordered the sprockets for me and a few others, as mine falls within the VIN range... NFI have been pretty slow with this, it was posted on the gov. recall site what April 30 or something? i would have assumed they would have just ordered a bunch of sprockets ready for the recall, but apparently not, they had 20 in the warehouse, which are all now gone..awaiting more... would hope no one has an accident from this, as it would surely leave them liable??

Hey M,
Most likely world wide shortage of stock by now, seems likely?
I have an 06/08 model (this month) and my frame number is after the recall frame number, my spocket is the old kind, I will confirm this on Saturday when Im at the dealership, If its is part of the recall I will require them to replace it as soon as they have one availible, I cant see me accepting a "only if its cracked" line.

This "inspecting" is absolute BS! It may not have cracks at the time of inspection, what happens 6 months down the track when it develops cracks and l come off the bike as a result, LAW SUIT (if l survive that is).

Hey Mark....i had been watching that one...
My bike has been recalled to replace the mirrors and the tank, so I asked about the sprocket and the guy was a little suprised or caught a little off guard, but he said theres none in the country, there on back order, it should be a couple of weeks to get them or it will be done whenever they arrive its, he said every body is waiting for them around the world.

Whats your month and year as my 08 "s" is about 4000 up on your VIN no: ??
Something about the glass (mirror) and paint (tank), I had too much going at the time so TBH I wasnt really listening, They wanted me to bring it in Tuesday morning so I said sure I'll need a loaner, the guy then gave me an arvo time so I could wait 30 min and ride out.

Explain the quick change thing. How do they work?
Want to know before I place my final bids :lol

quick change needs a new quick change carrier, and then the sprockets to match, simply loosen chain, unbolt sprocket and change it easily, rather than the whole assembly, just bought one for the Multi with a 520 conversion...

Hey Aussie,
My compliance plate is stamped 11/07.
I've attached a pic Mark. The initial price of the carrier is about the same but the replacement sprockets are heaps cheaper. Will make sproket changes at the track heaps easier.

Mine's 2/08 possibly these units are sorted, it looks like the sprocket is the upgraded version on mine.
Although I'd like the one above for flexablilty.

Just need to clairfy that my NFI "bashing" was having a dig at the person i know from NFI at a track day that was coming up...

I was told last Saturday night to stop my derogatory comments about NFI on public forums..this thread specifically was mentioned... didn't think i was being derogatory?? especially when it was about a safety issue...ended up taking nearly 5 or 6 months to get my sprocket replaced...
seems the squealer needs to get their facts right...
